The chaotic four-player action of the previous Marvel Ultimate Alliance game and the X-Men Legends series that came before it are carried over into Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. It is derived from the comic book arcs “Secret Wars” and “Civil War,” respectively. After Nick Fury leads an unauthorized super-hero assault on Latveria and after a fight gone wrong in Connecticut kills hundreds of people, the government adopts the super-human registration act, which mandates all individuals with superpowers to declare their names to the government. This law was enacted after a fight gone wrong in Connecticut killed hundreds of civilians. You will reach a moment in the narrative where you will have to decide whether you support or oppose registration, and certain heroes will always be on one side or the other, preventing you from using them if you go down the opposite road. After this point, the remainder of the game is determined by your chosen narrative path.

If any of them are incapacitated, the game always has four active heroes. You can earn a bonus if you have certain combinations on your team, such as the X-Men or the Fantastic Four. This bonus changes depending on the team. Suppose there are fewer than four players. You are free to switch characters whenever you choose. Every character in the game has a health meter and an endurance meter. The stamina meter automatically recharges and regulates the use of powers throughout the game. Every hero has a jump, a grab, a rapid strike, and a forceful strike. Depending on the character, the hero’s jumping ability can also be used to double jump, fly, or web-swing. These can be combined to make jumping attacks, picking up an opponent and punching them, and other similar activities. The ability to employ powers is unlocked when one of these is combined with a modifier button. Every hero is equipped with a diverse set of capabilities. Every time you level up, you gain experience points that can be put toward upgrading your powers. You can reassign the points at any time, as well as switch which forces are now active.

You will receive health refills and points that may be spent on upgrading each hero’s statistics if you successfully defeat adversaries and destroy items in the environment. Additionally, there are health icons that can be collected. You can carry a total of two of these at once. Each hero can rapidly heal a character to total health or bring it back to life after being knocked out. You can carry additional items that can grant stat boosts, such as enhanced health points or a bonus to a particular type of damage. You can use these items in battle.

You begin the game with a select group of characters, and as you go through the levels and achieve specific goals, other characters become available for use. There is a second outfit for each playable character that may be unlocked. How you get access to it is different depending on who you play as.

Various non-player characters will discuss with you at multiple points throughout the game. Sure, they have unique responses to particular characters. At several junctures, you can react in an aggressive, diplomatic, or defensive manner. You can acquire boosts by responding in a specific way a sufficient number of times.

The introduction of fusions, combined attacks carried out by two characters, is the most significant improvement made to this game compared to its predecessor. You can have up to two active fusions at any given moment, and the only way to fill the fusion meter is to beat foes. Any combination of two characters can create a new character. These can be broken down into three primary categories: There are even targeted fusions, such as having Things toss Mr. Fantastic at a specific individual. You build up your power by repeatedly pressing a button while controlling the target with the left stick. These inflict significant damage on a single target, making them ideal for use against bosses. There are also clear fusions, such as having Storm reflect Wolverine’s lightning with her. These do damage to every enemy within a certain radius. To make this radius larger, you must repeatedly press a button. Clearing fusions help remove a concentration of foes from the battlefield.

Last but not least, there are directed fusions, such as when Iceman and Human Torch fire their powers at each other, then race around and slaughter everybody trying to come in their way. These are useful for eliminating adversaries that have become dispersed. Simply mashing a button will speed things up for you. Every fusion earns a “high score.” This is the target number of foes that need to be defeated. If you are successful, you will receive a health token.
