Tommy Vercetti is a gangster who was just released from jail after serving a fifteen-year term for failing to testify against his associates. Tommy is relegated to working for his former manager Sonny Forelli due to the fact that he did not betray his “family.” Sonny helps him out with a simple drug job, but things don’t go as planned, and Tommy winds up losing everything. Upon Sonny’s return, he becomes enraged and demands that he be given his money back. It’s unfortunate that everyone in Vice City, from gangsters and Cubans to bikers and politicians, are in his way, and it’s up to Tommy to clear a passage through the city.

The gameplay of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is quite similar to that of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. However, the setting of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has been changed to the city of Miami. The game retains and improves upon all of the characteristics that were present in the previous iteration. The game has been updated to include new cars that are modeled after popular automobiles of the 1980s. Some of the automobiles are older versions of those found in Grand Theft Auto III. The main character will have to steer a boat through a few different missions.

The ability to ride motorcycles is brand new to this iteration in the series. Tommy is able to ride a wide variety of two-wheeled vehicles, including large motorcycles that resemble Harley Davidsons, dirt bikes, and ordinary motorcycles. The player can travel from one region to another by flying small planes and helicopters and landing on helipads that are located on top of towering skyscrapers. Flying is also a larger element of the game because of this feature.

Melee weapons have been added to the protagonist’s armory, while firearms are, for the most part, identical to those found in Grand Theft Auto III. Tommy is skilled with a variety of weapons, including riot batons, crowbars, and others. There are further activities that can be done outside of the missions, such as driving cabs, carrying sick people to hospitals, battling fires, and playing the role of a vigilante police officer.

The score has been reworked to incorporate elements more characteristic of the 1980s in order to more accurately convey the decade’s vibe. Players will have access to 10 different radio stations, each of which will play music for an estimated nine hours, which is approximately three times as much as was available in the last game. I Ran by Flock of Seagulls, The Message by Grandmaster Flash, You’ve Got Another Thing Coming by Judas Priest, and Out of Touch by Hall & Oates are just a few of the notable titles included in the eclectic mix.
