Humans and Deimos are the two primary species that call the world of Arc: Twilight of the Spirits their home. Although they try to stay away from one another as much as possible, the two races are equally reliant on the Spirit Stones to keep the world’s equilibrium intact. Recently, human armies have begun to spread out throughout the land and take control of various countries. This army’s objective is to acquire all five of the Great Spirit Stones. The Spirits, on the other hand, are dead set on preventing this from happening, and in order to accomplish their mission, they select two heroes who, in the long run, will be capable of uniting both races in a fight for justice. One of them is a human lord by the name of Kharg who despises the Deimos and is plotting his vengeance; the other is a Deimos slave by the name of Darc who has aspirations of unifying and leading his species. Will it be possible for the two heroes to set aside their disagreements in order to save the world?

The Arc the Lad series is currently on its fourth installment, titled Arc: Twilight of the Spirits. The game, much like its two previous predecessors, features tactical fights that permit free positioning and movement of the characters on the battlefield. In spite of this, the game more closely resembles a “normal” role-playing game in the Japanese manner than it does a tactical role-playing game. The player has control over a somewhat modest group (up to six active combatants), and in the traditional role-playing game fashion, they are able to investigate towns as well as dungeons. The player takes control of Kharg at the beginning of the game; but, after that, they switch between controlling the human hero and Darc, each with their own party, in each of the subsequent chapters. Characters have access to a wide array of fighting styles and can learn new moves by accruing SP (spirit points) during combat and then utilizing those points to learn new moves.
